Hi, Blake with Boulevard Home. And today we’re gonna talk about dishwashers. We’re not gonna talk about what I feel is the best dishwasher, but we’re gonna talk about things that are important to you as far as if you’re gonna come purchase a dishwasher, what things that you should be looking for, and what should or should not be important to you. And maybe a few things that you haven’t thought about when you’re gonna purchase your new dishwasher because a dishwasher is a pretty important part of your home nowadays. I mean, everybody is busy. You want a good dishwasher that you can take and put your stuff into, expect it to work, and do what it’s supposed to. So today we’re gonna talk about all these different factors that play into it.
Now, if you’re curious about, you know, which one I feel is the best, dishwasher, we do have another video. Just refer back to that one will give you more of my opinion on what’s the best. But today, like I said, we’re just gonna talk about things that maybe you should consider when you’re looking at a dishwasher. So the first thing you want to consider on this dishwasher is its features. Wow, look at this dishwasher.
It has eight features and this one only has six features. 99% of the time I go into somebody’s home and I say, okay, you’re having a problem with your dishwasher, what cycle do you run on? And 90% time, I always run on normal or always run on auto or I always run it on heavy. They don’t say I run it sometimes on this and sometimes I, it’s always just because it has 10 features, you only use one. Is it worth that extra money for it? Some to taking consideration when you’re possibly buying your dishwasher. You know, what cycles are important to you are also important to reliability. How reliable is this dishwasher? Read reviews. Not everybody has a great review of something.
But again, read the negative, read the positive, and then usually the truth is somewhere in the middle or talk to a repairman, just column up and say, hey, I’m thinking about looking at a new dishwasher. Do you have an opinion on this? Cuz you talk to a salesperson, they will tell you all the great features, but do they know, does it lasts? You know, if you want a dishwasher and you’re gonna spend that type of money for a dishwasher, you’re gonna want it to work and be reliable for a very long time.
When you’re talking about price. Yeah, dishwashers, I mean, they’re the big gammon and dishwasher, they go from three hundred dollars to 15 dollars generally, and there may be a little bit more, but usually in that price range. Well, if you’re getting a Bosh dishwasher, yeah, they’re expensive, but they’re a quality dishwasher and they’re reliable and they work well.
And you’re gonna have a great unit and you’re gonna get a lot of return on your investment that you’re spending on this dishwasher because when you think about it, if you’re gonna go replace this dishwasher in 5 years, cuz you bought a cheap dishwasher, well, it’s not like that dishwasher is gonna be the same price in five years. That dishwasher you’re spending $500 for today and five years that dishwasher maybe seven or 8 hundred dollars for the same features you have, just with the cost of inflation and everything else. If you buy a thousand-dollar dishwasher, that’s a good reliable dishwasher and it lasts you for 15 years. Did you get your money out of it? Absolutely. You got your money out of it.
Now, another thing you want to consider when you’re buying a dishwasher is how much water they use. A lot of the new dishwashers have auto cycles on them that can use as little as three and a/2 gallons of water, 2, or as much as 7 or 8 gallons of water. Look at these dishwashers because the water and the water usage are gonna affect you. Less water using the dishwasher, that’s less coming out of your pocket when you get the water, Bill. Washing dishes by hand always uses more water than your dishwasher will guarantee it for the same amount of dishes that dishwasher holds and you’re washing by hand, I’m gonna guarantee you it’s gonna use more water. Your dishwasher is gonna save you that time and also that water in that dishwasher.
So that is a really important factor you want to look at when purchasing your dishwasher. Also, another factor you want to take into, consideration is the type of material in there. You know, you have stainless steel interiors, you have plastic interiors. Most manufacturers are going to a stainless steel interior. And the reason they’re doing that, one, it looks nice.
And two, they’re using it for the drying system. And you know we’ve talked about this in other videos, but most manufacturers are going to an evaporative drying system. And the way that works is we’re heating the water and we’re getting that tank to be the same temperature as that water. So when it goes to the drying portion, the water moves to the warmest part, which is the tank because it’s insulated and it pulls that water, waving your dishes to that tank. So that helps in drying. With plastic tubs, you don’t have that ability because it doesn’t have that same heat and will hold that same heat.
So they don’t work as well when you’re using it evaporative drying system. And then also plastics will, when you get them hot like that and you get the pores open in them if you have certain reds in them that the tanks can start turning pink and they also can, you know, over time get odors and stuff in that plastic. So when you open up, you get more odors in it than you would with a state stain. The steel tanks are easier to clean if you have to run a dishwasher cleaner through that, which I recommend you do now and then, but that will also help clean it because the dishwasher cleaners do a better job with stainless steel than they do with the plastic liners.
Another huge factor, how loud is this dishwasher. Because most homes nowadays, you know, everybody wants open concept kitchens into the living room and hard surfaces because people don’t like carpet, they like hard surfaces cuz it’s easy to clean, especially with animals. Well, if you have a noisy dishwasher and you have all these hard surfaces in an open area, that noise is going to reverberate within this room. So also taking consideration, you know, how loud this dishwasher is and what environment this is gonna be in. If it’s in a separate kitchen that’s away from everybody, I mean, you can get a louder dishwasher if you want, you know, but you’re gonna hear definitely when it’s running when you’re trying to watch your favorite show at night.
Other things, you know, we want consideration is capacity, how much this will hold. I love dishwashers with the third rack because you can put all your silverware in that third rack and your silverware container that sits in the bottom, put it in the drawer, throw in the cover to throw it away or throw it in your cap. I don’t care, you know, but you can get rid of that and you have that extra space in that dishwasher. Look at your capacity, look for flexibility with it, and how your racks are set up. So just because a dishwasher has great reviews, it’s quiet and it’s what you want. If your plates are humongous and you like to load them a certain way, is this dishwasher gonna work for you?
Another thing you also want to take into consideration is the smart features you have in your dishwashers, meaning you can attach it to your phone and so it will tell you when your dishwasher is finished. You can start it from work or you can start in the middle, right? That is something that you’re gonna have to take into consideration when buying a dishwasher. Is the smart features that it does have, is it useful to you? So also consider that.
The very final thing you look at is the aesthetics of it and how good it looks in the room. Cuz sometimes you get a dishwasher that has weird handles or it’s got a weird trim piece on it or it’s got this other piece or the handle sticks out or you have to reach in and grab the door a certain way to open it if your kitchen is something that’s very open and everybody looks at it, you’re also gonna want to look at how goo
